Pete Edochie is a Nigerian actor who began his career in a broadcasting corporation at age 20 before moving into the movie industry. However, Edochie came to limelight in the 1980s after playing a lead role, Okonkwo in a screen adaptation of Chinua Achebe’s Things Fall Apart.

Since then, Pete has featured in hundreds of movies and has been awarded both locally and internationally. He is even regarded as one of Africa’s greatest actors and was honored as Member of the Order of the Niger in 2003 by Olusegun Obasanjo.

Pete Edochie was born on March 7, 1947 in Enugu, Nigeria. He hails from Anambra State, but was raised in Zaria, Kaduna.

Pete Edochie had his primary and secondary Education in Zaria, Kaduna State of Nigeria. After his formal education, he worked with the Nigerian Railway Cooperation. Later, he went further to study a course in Journalism and Television in the School of Journalism and television in England.

Popularly known simply as Yul Edochie, Yul Chibuike Daniel Edochie is the son of a well-known Nigerian actor, Pete Edochie. He was born on 7 January 1982 and is also a successful actor in his own right in the Nigerian movie industry, Nollywood. Yul Edochie, the last of six children, was raised both in Lagos and Enugu.


He began the journey of his education at Lillian’s Day Nursery School and Robinson Street Primary School, Enugu between 1984 and 1992. His secondary education began from 1992 to 1998 within which he attended Marist Brothers’ Juniorate, Uturu; University Secondary School, Enugu; Ecumenical Community Secondary School, Enugu and New Haven Boys Secondary School Enugu Respectively. After that, Yul Edochie proceeded to the University of Port Harcourt, where he bagged a Bachelor of Arts in Dramatic Arts.
