Obi Ezeude started his Beloxxi career at the age of 27 in 1994 when Ezeude incorporated Beloxxi & Company Limited (BCL) as an importer and distributor of Hwa Tai and Luxury cracker biscuit brands from Malaysia and Dean’s shortbread from Scotland.
Ezeude started out importing biscuits and said: ‘My reason to start with biscuits was because I hadn’t much money and needed a business my little capital could afford.”
In 2003, the government banned biscuits import, a development he said looked to him like an opportunity to fast-track an old longing to be a manufacturer.
His efforts to get into manufacturing with the Malaysian trading partners he sold their biscuits didn’t cut ice, because he could not convince his foreign partners that the investment climate in Nigeria was ripe for the manufacturing of cracker biscuits of the highest standard. His partners didn’t buy the idea of manufacturing in Nigeria.
Obi Ezeude was determined to make the transition from trading to manufacturing, Ezeude approached his Nigerian bankers. That was when he encountered disappointment number two: His bankers made it clear to him that they would not risk their money on manufacturing. But Ezeude would not be deterred.
Having schooled in the United States, Ezeude decided to approach the US Export and Import Bank (US-EXIM). The process was long and tedious but in December 2003, a $2.2 Million loan facility was approved for him to build a fully integrated and automated biscuit factory in Nigeria. Ezeude reveals his US-Exim Bank experience with that of Nigerian banks. “I had series of meetings with their management and even when I did not have all that they requested, the management and officials were more interested in my ideas and how it would work whereas my Nigerian bankers were only interested in collateral”, he said
His zeal to work on his own in a disused factory block in Ikeja, with a single production line that rolled out the Beloxxi Cream Crackers, the consumers’ delight in quality that hasn’t changed till date.
Few years later, his big dream nudged him again to expand because “we faced the challenge of meeting market expectation in product volume, and had to do something about it,” he explained.
But today now, Ezeude’s Beloxxi, is the most technologically advanced biscuits plants owned by an indigenous investor. He currently have three (3) phase expansion and nine (9) production lines.
Over four years now, Beloxxi Cream Crackers is served aboard most out bound international airlines such as Lufthansa, KLM, British Airways, Emirates, Ethihad, Ethiopian, Kenyan, South African Airways.

Hwa Tai And Luxury Biscuits From Malaysia
Tatawa Cookies And Soft Biscuits From Malaysia
Dean’s Shortbread From Scotland
In March 2003, the Federal Government of Nigeria banned the importation and distribution of all kinds of biscuits into Nigeria. Consequently BCL decided to go into local production of biscuits.
In December 2003, the United States of America Export and Import Bank (US EXIM) approved a $2.2 Million Loan Facility for BCL to build an ultra-modern, fully integrated and automated biscuit factory-the first of its kind in Nigeria.
